Daltons seed is grown to the highest possible standard and inspected by our own and independent crop inspectors.
The current area of seed grown on contract for us is:
Winter Cereals: 1500 Ha
Spring Cereals: 600 Ha
Oilseeds: 100 Ha
Winter Beans: 150 Ha
Spring Beans: 150 Ha
Peas: 400 Ha
Requirements from seed growers
Previous Cropping
Cereals:
To produce
C1 seed: No other cereal species may have been grown in
the previous year, no other variety of the same species may
have been grown in the preceding two years. If a crop of the
same variety was grown in the preceding two years the crop must
be sown with pre-basic, basic, certified or other authenticated
seed. The same position regarding catch crops applies as for
Pre-basic and basic seed.
To produce C2 seed: No other variety of the same species
may have been grown in the preceding year. If a crop of the
same variety was grown in the previous year, it must have been
sown with Pre-basic, basic, certified or other authenticated
seed.
Peas and Beans:
The minimum
previous cropping requirements are that there shall have been
no crop of peas or beans or a dredge corn crop containing peas
or beans during the preceding two years.
Oilseed Rape:
No oilseed rape crop in the previous 5 years.
Linseed:
No oilseed
rape crop in the previous 2 years
No Linseed in previous 5 years.
The field used for oilseed rapeseed and linseed should also
be free from crop plants and weeds likely to affect the quality
of the seed. A crop which has failed to establish after sowing
must be included.
Isolation Requirements:
Cereals, Peas and Linseed
2M gap or physical barrier, ie hedge or dyke, between two crops
Oilseed Rape
400M for basic seed 200M for certified seed
Beans
200M for
Pre-basic, basic or C1 seed crops up to 2 hectares
100M for crops over 2 hectares
100M for C2 crops up to 2 hectares
50M for crops over 2 hectares
Low Tannin or White Flowered Beans
400M for C1 seed 200M for C2 seed
There are a number of established seed growers currently growing seed but there are always opportunities for new growers.
