Varieties exclusively from Daltons

Daltons seeds are marketing agents for a number of varieties from both UK and Continental breeders. Varieties are trialled by Daltons at several sites in the UK and those selected offer a distinct benefit to our farmer customers e.g. very high yield, premium market use, excellent standing ability and enhanced disease resistance. Varieties currently available include:

Wheat

Wallace is a Group 2 milling spring wheat offering stiff straw and outstanding disease resistance. The variety found a particular niche for late autumn sowing but is a true spring wheat and can be sown from November to March.

Oilseed Rape

Borneo is a high yielding fully restored hybrid winter Oilseed Rape. In ARC trials over a three-year mean Borneo yielded 3% higher than Winner, while the NIAB Regional Recommended Trials shows Borneo has a 8% higher yield than Winner in the West.

Borneo has good resistance to lodging at flowering for reliable seed set, while good stem stiffness at harvest allows easier combining.

Borneo’s hybrid vigour ensures strong establishment due to its vigorous growth habit, allowing it to grow through most disease pressure, including good resistance to downy mildew.

Earlybird is a new very early maturing spring rape  that combined with short stiff straw makes it a very easy crop to manage.

In all situations Earlybird offers high yields when harvested at the correct time but its earliness makes the variety especially suited to Scotland and the North of England.

In the South Earlybird is also suited to patching failed winter crops as it ripens early but unlike turnip rape is less likely to fail in drought stress conditions.
